By Andrew Fry, Physiotherapist
As a physiotherapist and a bloke who’s had his fair share of knocks, I get it — asking for help isn’t always easy. But here’s the thing: it should be.
This Men’s Health Week, we’re shining a light on something that doesn’t always get the attention it deserves — the health and wellbeing of men in our community. And part of that includes breaking the stigma around seeking help when you’re injured, in pain, or unsure about how to move safely.
Why Men Put Off Getting Help
Whether it’s pride, habit, or just being “too busy”, many men tend to ignore pain or push through injury. We hear phrases like “I’ll be right” or “It’s just a niggle” all the time in the clinic. But those small issues can become big problems if they’re left untreated.
Delaying treatment doesn’t just affect your physical health — it can also impact your mental health, sleep, and overall quality of life. At Gen Health, we want to change the conversation.
It’s Not Weak to Speak
We’re all about normalising help-seeking behaviour — whether it’s for an old footy injury, lower back pain from work, or figuring out how to get moving safely after years of doing nothing. The truth is, getting support early is a sign of strength, not weakness.
And the reality is, every man, no matter how tough, can benefit from some guidance when it comes to managing pain, moving better, and preventing injuries.
Moving Safely, No Matter Your Age or Fitness Level
Whether you’re 18 or 80, regular physical activity is crucial. But it’s got to be the right kind of activity for your body, your goals, and your current condition. That’s where we come in.
At Gen Health Hamilton, our physiotherapists can help you:
- Recover from injuries with a plan that makes sense
- Prevent future issues with personalised exercise programs
- Build strength and mobility safely
- Understand what’s normal and what’s not when it comes to pain.
We work with everyday blokes, athletes, tradies, dads, grandfathers, and everyone in between — helping them move well, live well, and feel confident in their bodies.
You Don’t Have to Do It Alone
You don’t have to tough it out. You don’t have to pretend it doesn’t hurt. And you don’t have to have all the answers.
